Mountaineering sunglasses

When it is cold, plastic or nylon frames feel the warmest and are resistant to shrinkage and cold weather snap. When you reach the higher altitudes the suns UV rays are much more intense so be sure to bring your sun block as well.

Wrap style, frames with side shields or foam insulated keep the most incidental light out of your eyes. Polarized lenses reduce the most glare you will get off the ice and snow and mirror coatings also reduce the amount of light that affects your experience. If you are getting light leakage anywhere on the frame it is advised to get a backside coating to keep the glare to a minimum. Polycarbonate lense are a must with their impact resistance you will need protection from possible debris that could come from loose ruble above or if you are climbing below another climber.

If you are getting a prescription we recommend a polarized super mirror or a melanin lens to keep the sun from damaging you eyes. The increased exposure at altitudes can quickly lead to cataracts and macular degeneration. Be smart, be safe!
